Three people including the site engineer tragedically lost their lives inside a new septic tank at a construction site in Komamboga Central Zone in Kawempe Division, Kampala.

According to eyewitnesses, the trio seems to have died due to suffocation while fixing pipes of the new septic tank on Wednesday. The area chairperson, Noah Mukasa Sserumaga said one builder descended into the septic tank to lay pipes but did not resurface several minutes later.

This prompted his colleague to also descend to check on him but he too faced the same fate. The now worrying situation prompted the site engineer to also descend into the septic tank where he also met his death.

The residents who were in shock could only identify the site owner as James Ssaaka, and said the deceased persons were all new in the area.

The response team, led by Kawempe district police commander Robert Kuzala retrieved the bodies of the three and conveyed them to the City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem to ascertain the actual cause of death.

Strange deaths! Could there have been some toxic emissions in the septic tank?

It’s unfortunate these workers lost their lives. The workers were not trained in Confine Space Entrance and if they were, they did not follow proper procedure.

There must have been some toxic gases in the septic tank. The situation could have been avoided by constant monitoring of Oxygen in the Septic tank before entry and during.
